Weeds- by Aishani Purohit VI-D

"Weeds are just flowers out of place." - Bill Lefebure

As the lockdown brought life to a standstill, vegetation made a comeback to the public as well as private spaces. There was chaos and disorder everywhere .

Once upon a time, the garden was buzzing with beauty and gorgeous vibrant blooms. Everything was prim and proper, the gardener had put in a lot of hard work and labour .

But alas! The joy was short-lived.

The patch of green, soon turned into a haphazard landscape as lockdown struck and the gardener could not visit the garden on a regular basis.

Soon it turned unruly, messy and unkempt.

Weeds were all over the garden.

'Dandelion'(weeds) which mimicked the yellow 'Chrysanthemum' appeared to be its miniature version, but posed no threat to the bigger flower.

Soon the garden was sprawling and buzzing with life. Birds, bees and bugs were all around the garden. The Lantana bushes became the housing society for the tiny birds.

Everything which appeared to be cluttered and disorderly now appeared lively and life supporting.

Weeds compete with other plants for their livelihood with equal zeal and hardwork. They are also plants, unwanted by us humans but for other species they provide shelter and nourishment.

They give us life lessons in persistence and perseverance. As it is the ‘survival of the fittest.’

And I truly believe:

“I'm more of a weed. I like weeds. They're survivors. - Leigh Bardaugo
