Taking the next step with Youth by Myra Agrawal VIII-E

"If we let them, Young people will be the World's most powerful solution." Dennis Dunner said so and he was right. According to the UN, youth constitute the majority of the population in many countries. In today's day and age, they are aware of the environmental status which has the power to make our planet a better place and achieve low carbon and climate-resilient future.

Recognising the Key role that youth can play in tackling not only climate change but also other SDGs,

The 60th annual DPI/NGO conference stressed the role of youth, the next generation which inhabits the Earth and inherits the responsibility to protect the planet, in fighting the complex scientific problems presented by climate change.

In 2008, in his address, Ban-ki-moon, Secretary-General of the UN said young people who are adept at spreading new habits and technologies are well placed to contribute to the fight against climate change. They (youth) are adaptable and can quickly make low-carbon lifestyles and career choices a part of their daily lives. Youth should therefore be given a chance to take an active part in the decision-making of local, national, and global levels. A more defined role should be given to the youth to prevent the impact of climate change.
